Kyle started in the trades where he worked as a welder for a number years. Facing a recession and downsizing in the oil industry, he decided to pursue leathercraft as his new fulltime vocation. He started with small items and has moved to being the premier leathercrafter in Edmonton.
While visiting Kyle in his shop in the Strathcona area of Edmonton, he made me a belt. He took me through each step where he discussed the best section of the cowhide to make belts from, to cutting, trimming, stitching, and final oiling and assembly. The belt is a true testament to his craftsmanship and a piece that will last a lifetime
Kyle’s store and shop highlight a journey of both a businessman and craftsman. He started in the iconic Mercer Building in downtown Edmonton but grew out of the space and found a more suitable (and closer to coffee) space in Old Strathcona. Kyle takes pride in the store where he’s made everything – including the benches, shelves and cabinets. He’s a true maker.
