Carrie has been a jeweller and silversmith for over 10 years and is very passionate about the maker community. She is a supporter of all makers within Edmonton and surrounding areas and wants to see the maker economy flourish to become a sustainable way of life for artists. The name Two Carrots Studio comes from a play on words. Carrie’s nickname of Carrot (given to her because all she ate was carrots as a child) and the carat reference for both gemstones and gold.
During my time in her studio, she made a beautiful ring from sterling silver and labradorite. She took me through the entire process of cutting, stamping, and forming the metal, and then creating the setting for the stone. Finally, she set the stone using various tools including a piece of rebar polished on one end. It was a fascinating look into the work of a silversmith.
Carrie’s studio is in the Bonnie Doon area of Edmonton within a collective of other artists and makers. She’s the newest addition to the space and thankful to be a part of such a creative group of individuals. Although her studio is small, it’s a great mix of function and hominess that makes you comfortable when your arrive. She has all the tools and materials she needs on hand as well as various paintings from her daughter and other meaningful objects throughout the room. And of course, there is a place to display all her wonderful jewellery.
