Viva Clayworks is an amazing combination of a personal journey of making and a passion for teaching new makers the art of pottery. KJ, a master potter, uses her studio to pass on the intricacies of working with clay to all ages of new craftspeople.
Her studio sits just off Edmonton’s Whyte Avenue where it can be easily accessed by her students. It is a large space that houses many pottery wheels, a gallery space, and a firing room. You can feel the excitement when you walk into the studio and see how she has designed a space with a balance between creativity and learning.
She manages her own work at Viva in Edmonton and at her other studio in Salmon Arm, BC. KJ strives to find new ways to work in the medium preferring a traditional, wood-fired look to her work more than the more contemporary electric kiln. She controls the clay with expert hands right up to the point of firing - then she releases control to the fire and lets the magic happen.
